Vacuum System Reliability

Vacuum is utilized in several unit operations in the production of Biodiesel Fuel, such as the methanol stripping and methyl ester dehydration steps. Most biodiesel in the US is made from vegetable oils, such as soybean but also from waste cooking oil, animal fats, and fatty acids, by reacting with methanol in the presence of a catalyst. The chemical process known as transesterification, breaks down the triglycerides into methyl ester (which is the bio-diesel) and glycerol, where these two streams are separated by decanting or centrifuge. To force the reaction to completion, an excess amount of methanol is used, which is then stripped from each stream using vacuum flash evaporators. In some processes small amounts of excess water is removed from the feedstock oil or the washed biodiesel, which is also removed by vacuum evaporation.
The level of vacuum and vapor loads are dictated by the process design of the biodiesel plant; and a reliable vacuum system meeting these requirements is critical to the profitability of your production. We have supplied systems operating as low as 0.1 psia with vacuum pumps operating on water, biodiesel, or even methanol.
We can provide the vacuum system, or we can include the flash evaporator and solvent recovery. For more information, please send your enquiries to: jackbern2007@gmail.com
